DESCRIPTION

On average, there were 3.9 doctors and 8.4 nurses per 1000 population in the EU in 2019 – an increase of about 16 % and 14 % respectively over the past decade. Despite these increases, the demand and complexity of care provided in Europe has grown at a comparatively faster pace due to population ageing and the growing burden of chronic diseases, which aggravated pre-existing shortages (State of Health in the EU: Companion Report 2021) Up- skilling and reskilling activities are required to ensure an efficient patients’ follow-up based on valuable assistance. With this module we aim to provide tools and digital expertise that will reduce the personnel burn-out caused by the workload. The module will include an overview on the existing methods and telehealth solutions to improve the patients follow up. Even simple digital health apps that, for example, allow patients to track their therapy and provide real-time information back to the provider for intervention and/or targeted follow-up, can be effective for prevention purposes and in improving patients’ adherence to pharmaceutical and other treatments (Khan and Socha-Dietrich, 2018). The trainees will be provided with specific competences regarding the adoption of telehealth services to improve the quality of care, increase the patients’ self-care skills and reduce the need for hospital care.
